Autumn Wedding Inspiration

Hylands Estate

6th October 2020 – Weddings

Written by Amy Brown

The last of the summer sun makes way for the rich warm tones of autumn, the nights draw in and a cosy atmosphere wraps its arms around us. If autumn is the season for you and you’re looking for some inspiration, you’ll find our favourite autumnal wedding ideas right here!

COLOURS & THEME

Not everyone will be keen to create a theme for their wedding day but by selecting a colour scheme you’ll find it easier to make decisions on many aspects of the day.

Autumn offers us a great choice of colours, from rich and vibrant jewel tones such as orange, red & purple to more muted colours such as caramel, green & ivory. Compliment your colour scheme with hints of gold, rose gold or copper to add some sparkle to your scheme.

This wouldn’t be an autumnal blog unless we mentioned some unique theme ideas! Now we’re not suggesting an all-out Halloween theme here, but adding some small pumpkins into your centrepieces, you’ll give a discrete nod to the season. Give them a bridal spin by painting them white, or maybe even a metallic tone to match your colour scheme!

Using natural elements such as hessian, log slices, pine cones or foliage will help to provide an autumnal vibe. The Grand Pavilion is a blank canvas ready to be transformed by your colours & designs, and lends itself perfectly to a more rustic theme for autumn. Rest assured we have central heating, so no one’s going to feel the real chill of autumn & we can even change the colour of the uplighters to match your colour scheme, adding to the ambience!

FLOWERS & DECOR

Autumn conjures up thoughts of falling leaves and with lush foliage being a key wedding trend, why not add an autumnal twist with darker, more tonal foliage to your floral arrangements?

When picking flowers, think astilbe, amaranthus, dahlia, berries & antique roses for a sumptuous, home grown selection! Team them with eucalyptus and ruskus for a fuller looking arrangement. Why not tie your bouquets with hand dyed silks for a romantic twist.

The use of coloured glassware and charger plates can create wow factor for your tables, teamed with themed place settings such as painted seasonal fruits like these super cute pears or fallen autumn leaves painted and personalised.

WEDDING CAKES AND CATERING

We all love cake, in fact we love cake so much we wrote a whole blog on the topic! Iced cakes offer so many options in terms of colours & designs! Your Cake Designer will be able to use your colour scheme to create the perfect cake to compliment your theme! Perhaps look to have sugar flowers made to replicate your fresh seasonal flowers & foliage? We love these examples!

Another favourite style for the season would be the naked or semi-naked cake! It’s perfect for a rustic theme with it’s unfinished, natural appearance!  These cakes can be adorned with seasonal berries, flowers or maybe delicious caramel or chocolate!

Why not ask your caterer if they offer any seasonal menu options or hire additional outdoor catering such as hot dog stands, pizza units, or fresh donuts machines for those with a sweet tooth! How about creating a hot chocolate drinks station with marshmallows and other yummy treats!

Can you ever go wrong with cheese? From a tiered cheese wedding cake to a cheese grazing board perfect for sharing, why not check if your caterer can provide the ultimate comfort food for your guests!

INVITATIONS AND STATIONERY

Set the theme of your wedding day right from the moment you send invitations, to the wedding day itself with bespoke stationery such as seating plans, place settings & table names. For more help on invitations check out our blog Dates: Choosing them, booking them, sending them!
