As we take tentative steps back into the venue, we look at how smaller ceremonies can still be as magical and meaningful as the larger unions we are used to hosting here at Hylands Estate.
It’s no secret that the wedding industry has been knocked sideways with the arrival of Coronavirus, but as we approach each relaxation of the rules with caution, we are excited to move forwards with the offer of our first COVID secure wedding ceremonies!
The Rules (as of 4th July 2020)
In a nutshell, wedding ceremonies may only take place in approved venues within a COVID secure environment in the shortest amount of time necessary. They should be at a maximum of 30 attendees which includes the wedding couple, registrars or officiants, photographers, videographers and guests. The 30 attendees do NOT need to include staff employed by the venue.
Rings must be handled as little as possible and hands must be washed before and after handling the rings. There can be no singing, chanting or playing musical instruments that are blown into.
Social distancing must be adhered to, and formalities such has shaking hands, hugging and touching guests is not permitted.
Receptions of any size are not permitted. No food or drink should be consumed unless for the purposes of solemnisation.

As with all guidance, this will be reviewed every 3 weeks.
Positivity is key!
Hylands House has taken full advantage of the downtime provided by lockdown, planned renovations were brought forward and the house now boasts expertly hand-painted pillars and panels within the Banqueting Room, a reimagined, soon to be completed Bridal Suite with fitted furniture and chandeliers as well as many newly restored or fully replaced floors.
We are quite sure that the house has slept peacefully and enjoyed the extra care and attention, in anticipation of new couples and new celebrations!
Smaller, COVID secure celebrations
Now we understand that a small ceremony with limitations will not appeal to everyone, and that’s ok. We’re sure that given some more time, the rules will be relaxed step by step until we are back to maximum capacity but until then we are delighted to offer COVID secure wedding ceremonies here at Hylands, for those that are looking to legally bind their love this year!
THE BANQUETING ROOM. For a touch of regal elegance, celebrate your love inside the Banqueting Room. This breath-taking room boasts lavish ceilings overlaid with 24ct Gold leaf, newly painted oak-effect pillars and panels and silk lined walls in keeping with the neo-baroque design first seen at the house in the early 1800’s. This space, with its views across the parkland can accommodate 30 attendees under the new guidance.
THE DRAWING ROOM. For a softer, romantic setting why not take your vows in the Drawing Room. The Victorian putti nestled into the ceiling and ornate white marble fireplace add a romantic warmth to this beautiful, peaceful room which overlooks the parkland and East Terrace. This slightly smaller space will accommodate 28 attendees under the new guidance.
Your guest list may be smaller, but our offering to you is still as grand as ever. With our new Ceremony Only offering, you have exclusive use of Hylands House and following your intimate ceremony in one of our exquisite rooms you can enjoy the abundance of backdrops for photographs around the house and outside in the picturesque formal gardens.
We’ve made the process even easier by asking Aaron Crowe Photography, who is based in the Hylands Artist Studios to offer a unique price for intimate ceremony photography.
The Flower Room Essex have also generously offered some amazing smaller package prices for your floral needs, you can trust Debbie and her team to add a special touch to your day.
Why not include a Horse and Carriage by Hawthorn Heavy Horses who are based here at Hylands Estate!
Hylands is fully up to speed with COVID secure guidance, safety is our priority. We will operate a track & trace system which is GDPR compliant and set up by guidesforbrides.co.uk as a free and secure service for our clients. Hand sanitising stations are located around the house and all touch points are taken care of by our staff to ensure you remain safe at all times. Viewings can be arranged via video call and in person here at the venue with relevant social distancing restrictions.
Attractive pricing structures have been finalised and unlike before, we are now able to offer weekend dates for your ceremony (weekends are usually reserved for full day hire which includes ceremony & reception). Call or email the team today to find out how your COVID secure ceremony could be accommodated this year!
